Transformation of Online Shopping in Next 10 years
Technology is quickly changing how consumers our shopping for products. Despite a lot of rumors and predictions, there are few things that will surely change the consumer shopping within the next 10 years. As such, some of these shopping trends may seem to be something out of a science-fiction movie.
For instance, Amazon and certain other large retailers have already starting thinking about delivery of products using the drone technology. Technologists working on smart tools claim that the existing technology has advanced to an extent where it is possible to replace drones with humans; however, we still need to figure out certain legal, ethical and practical challenges.
In a decade, price comparison shopping may take an entirely different dimension if 3-D printers are introduced. Instead of offering traditional printing, 3-D printers are going to deliver ready-made products by printing them from the loaded materials inside a cartridge. Don’t be surprised, if your 3-D printer is able to build instant LEGO toys that you ordered, online. The American Society for Testing and Materials is already creating rules for 3-D printer shopping. Initially, it is estimated that 3-D printers will be able to build things like print edible foods, human tissues and metals etc.
For automated warehouses and driver-less trucks, consumers may not even have to wait 10 years. Test trials are already underway at many factories around the world. For instance, Amazon is using fully-automated facilities in certain geographical areas allowing retailers to fulfill online orders without human intervention. Similarly, development of driver less trucks is also in the pipeline. Actually, driver-less trucks are ready to deliver shopping goods as soon as proper infrastructure is in place.
