You have the responsibility of taking care of the employees while they work for you, here’s how to that effectively…
Your business will have started out as just one idea and it will have developed into so much more than that as you nurture the idea and take that leap of faith to create your business. However, once you start your business and it grows, you may find that you then get into the position of having people work for you. You then have the responsibility of taking care of the employees while they work for you, so how do you do that effectively? I thought I would share with you some of the ways you can do it.
Offer more training
One of the first things you could consider would be to offer up more training. That might be something that you do yourself, or consider trying out other techniques like the 3 step knowledge transfer solution. Or it might be that you choose to consider things like apprenticeships, or general training. It is great to keep up with the skills that your employees need to continue to do a good job for you. It can also help them to feel valued which can then be a great motivator to do well.
Regular catch ups to discuss targets and goals
Everyone likes to know where they are up to in terms of targets and goals that have been set of them. So you may want to consider having regular catch ups with your employees to ensure they know where they are up to. It also gives you insight into finding out whether they will be achieved, and if you need to do any specific work to help them achieve it.
Listen more
You could always try and listen a little more. We can often take for granted just how simple listening is, but how it can make someone feel if they have been listened to. They can then feel valued and that their opinion matters. This might take place in meetings that require a group discussion, one to one catch ups, or generally just during the day to day routine of working life.
Take on feedback and criticism
You could also consider accepting things like feedback and criticism. By listening to your employees you may be made aware of improvements that could be made, criticism on things that need changing and also what is being done right. It is simple but effective and it could help towards making some great changes to the business you have and what you do moving forward.
Create a decent and safe working environment
Finally, it is your responsibility to create a safe and working environment for the people you have working for you. It might mean that you need some sort of health and safety policy in place to protect you and the staff you have. It is being aware that the welfare of other people is in your hands.
I hope that some of these tips help you to take better care of the employees you have working for you, now and in the future.
