Daycare/childminding

There are plenty of people who aren’t quite suited to the, let’s be honest, often hectic job of looking after kids throughout the day. Then there are those who seem to be able to cope with it all like water off a duck’s back. If you’re the latter, then working in childminding or even starting your own daycare business could be one of the most stable fields you could enjoy working in. Lots of working moms and dads have need of someone to look after their kids when they can’t and it gives you the opportunity to make fantastic friendships with all kinds of little ones.

Early education

If your care for children goes much further into the future, into thinking about the kind of people they grow up to be and the kind of careers they grow up to have, then you might want to think about education. Working in a kindergarten setting isn’t all visionary educating and happiness, of course. It can be demanding. But education matters, especially from an age as early as that. Creating a nurturing environment where they get the right guidance in learning early reading and other skills set them up with the right attitude to learning for life.

The science of children

Being good with kids isn’t all about how you interact with them, of course, but how about you understand them. We all know these are their formative years, but it can be fascinating learning just how formative they are. Child development careers you could pursue often involve finding that answer out. But just as it could lead to a career in researching the behavior and growth of children, it can lead having an influencing hand in things like education centers and educating parents to help them better nurture their own children.

Social work

If making sure that kids have the proper family environment they need is important to you, then there is plenty of room for you in the field of social work. Social working can be emotionally exhausting and put you face-to-face with tough situations. If you’re resilient, however, you can really help children who need. It can also give you the opportunity to help children and parents deal with health issues outside of a clinical setting. Many social workers are those who help kids and parents alike transition into lifestyles that help them better cope with a disability, for instance.

Happy campers

If you prefer a setting that’s a little more relaxed but you still care about helping foster kids into the brilliant young adults they could be, then there are places for you outside of education and social work. For instance, you could think about getting a place every summer at a camp. As well as helping kids enjoy an adventure, these are the places that can teach them some thoroughly important life skills they might not get the opportunity to learn in the classroom. Leadership, team work, independence and the like can all be fostered in these great environments.

Pediatrics

Again, it’s a field that requires someone with plenty of strength to go with their caring side. Seeing children in pain is no-one’s idea of a stress-free environment. But if you can cope with that pressure, then you could be the guiding hand and caring presence that makes the clinical setting a lot easier for children. There’s a need for caring pediatric nurses and, though your time in each child’s life may be brief, it can have a big impact. Besides helping to treat kids, you will also be playing an important role in educating their parents about nutrition, vaccinations, avoiding disease and more.

There are kids all over who could really benefit from the skills that you bring to the table. Whether that’s a scientific knowledge of childhood behavior or the kind of comforting presence that could get them through some otherwise scary moments in the doctor’s office. Think about whether working with children might just be the passion you’ve been looking for all this time.
