Meet Kate and Linny, two friends, two entrepreneurs, one amazing business idea
I am soooo excited for today’s Mompreneur Rockstars interview. We are featuring two amazing mompreneurs who are celebrating their grand opening TODAY (yes today)…yay! Also because I have had the grand privilege to interview some wonderful mom entrepreneurs who have some fabulous and unique products of their own who just might be interested in what they are offering. Yes, you will have to read on to find out just what it is that Kate and Linny have to offer 🙂
Welcome to Mompreneur Media, tell us about yourself:
Katherine Zackham (Kate) – My husband and I are lucky to have two adorable little boys – Finn (5) and Cole (7 mos.). I’m an East Coaster at heart – I grew up outside of Philadelphia, went to college at Columbia University and got my Masters from the University of Pennsylvania. I lived in California for nearly ten years, and that’s where I met Lindsay (Linny) at a friend’s BBQ. Before having my first baby, I worked as a Vice President at a real estate development and consulting company. I‘ve loved every minute as a stay-at-home mom but was always itching to do something of my own. I am so proud of the work that Lindsay and I have done over the past year and am excited to support mompreneurs across the country!
Lindsay Streufert (Linny) – I had a friend once describe me as “a woman with creative energy to burn and an entrepreneurial spirit to match”. After spending 15 years raising my three kids, I founded hair tie company Soul Ties~Hair & Wrist, which was my sole business focus before gearing up for Kate and Linny about a year ago. When I’m not sitting at a soccer practice, helping my kiddos with homework, or running a business, I LOVE to happily read a book on the beach or sip on a vanilla latte while scanning the racks at my local thrift stores! My husband Eric and I are proud parents to Holden (15), Ava (10) and Isla (3) and live in the beautiful seaside town of Ventura, CA.
What inspired you to start your business?
When we first met, we were each working on our own entrepreneurial ventures and found ourselves supporting each other both as business women and also as working moms. It was synchronicity that we both were ready for a new business and our strengths and weaknesses completely matched up. We call Katherine the “Business Guru” and Lindsay the “Creative Guru”!
Lindsay sold her hair ties on various daily deals sites and decided that she wanted to oversee a website like the ones she was selling on herself. Katherine suggested creating a site that focuses on Mompreneurs and the site took off from there!
What is so unique about Kate and Linny?
Not only does the site offer Katherine and Lindsay’s distinct, personal vibe and amazingly awesome products, but most of all, it features Mompreneurs… and that’s the part that Katherine and Lindsay love the most! In addition to daily deals featuring products that all moms will love, every week Kate and Linny will promote a new “Mompreneur of the Week” – this feature will highlight the mom’s business, give an insiders glimpse into the mompreneurs world (at work and at home) and of course provide amazing deals on her amazing products!
Amber Carman, our first Mompreneur of the Week, is Founder of Tangled Tantrum, and will be offering some of her fantastic hair products for kids. Lauren Felker, Founder of Hadden & Co., makes the cutest cardigan baby onesies! And be on the lookout for the super successful, DeNai Jones, Founder and Designer of Petunia Pickle Bottom, offering some of Petunia’s best products!
What was your number one challenge on starting your business?
Our number one challenge was definitely TIME. Between the two of us, we have five kids from 7 months to 16 years old! Stealing moments to connect with momprenueurs and our web designer was often accomplished before the sun came up and in the wee hours of the night! Another challenge was that in the last half of 2013, Katherine had a baby, had her gallbladder removed AND moved across the country in December. Thank God we are a fantastic team, and we didn’t skip a beat. Well, maybe a couple beats…
How can a mompreneur go about submitting her product to your boutique?
Great question! We love momprenuers and want to see what they’ve got! You can submit your product right on our website. There is a nifty tab at the bottom of the homepage that says, “Become a Vendor”… After you submit, give us a few days to review, and we’ll get back to you!
Fun fact about the two of you:
Lindsay and her family are moving to Australia for one year in June 2016 for a family adventure.
Katherine became a firefighter and an EMT was she was just 16 years old, though doesn’t really use those skills anymore… well, unless of course you find her in the kitchen…
Kate and Linny is a daily deals site for moms, babies and kids launching January 13th, 2014. The items featured on the site are made by, developed by or sold by moms, with a few exceptions thrown into the mix of products that are just too good for moms to miss out on! Founded by friends Katherine and Lindsay, who combine more than 20 years of mothering experience between them, the site not only showcases products for moms by moms, it also highlights “mompreneurs” by featuring a rotating “Mompreneur of the Week”, and a blog touching on all things motherhood. |
