Celebrity Mompreneur Gwen Stefani shares her $100 Million tips on how to use obsticals to fuel your success

Hardships, broken hearts—everyone’s had them. Forget taking lemons and making lemonade, some people take those life crises and use them as fuel to empower themselves to achieve greatness.

As a musician, entrepreneur, and mom, Gwen Stefani is one of those women who seems to run off of heartbreak and pain, mixed with tenacity and creativity. The superstar who seems to have it all, has endured more than her share of difficulties but has repeatedly shown the world that no obstacle is insurmountable, as she builds a music career, business, and raises her three kids.

Stefani gained stardom as the frontwoman of the band No Doubt. But in both the band and in her own solo career she often drew on the heartbreak in her own life to create songs to which millions of fans could relate.

She didn’t stop there however. Stefani tapped into her entrepreneurial side to create the clothing line L.A.M.B.—Love Angel Music Baby in 2004. The clothing line has reached revenues in excess of $100 million a year. She followed that clothing line with the Harajuku Lovers fashion and accessories line. Then in 2007 she launched her fragrance collection, called L, that Forbes called one of the best-selling celebrity fragrances, and that by 2011 reached $18 million in sales.

She eventually diversified her talent even further, while providing valuable mentorship to up-and-coming musicians, by joining the cast of The Voice. And she did all of this while raising her three children!

Despite her mega success as a rocker and entrepreneur, Stefani still faced problems that women in all walks of life face, most notably, a very public divorce. In her latest solo album, she proved once again that heartbreak only provides fodder to help her ascend.

You don’t have to be a star of Stefani’s caliber to overcome obstacles in your life and achieve your own definition of success. Adopt a few cues from Stefani to use in your own entrepreneurial pursuits:

Make body language work for you

Specifically, be aware of how you present yourself. Stefani has advised contestants on The Voice to make their stage presence count. If you’ve ever seen Stefani perform, you know how much energy she displays: running back and forth, jumping, and generally engaging the audience. You may not need to display that much energy but you should be aware that how you present yourself to colleagues, bosses, or potential clients can say more about you than your portfolio or resume.

Embrace creativity

One of the things that has helped create Stefani’s career is her unique style. She’s had pink hair, bleached hair, severe makeup, and worn fun and whacky clothing. Stefani has said that when she gets dressed in the morning it’s a reflection of how she’s feeling that day. Her style is anything but boring, and it’s helped to shape her personal brand. Don’t be afraid to embrace your creative side a little bit—or a lot—depending on the industry in which you work. Even a little creativity can go a long way. In Stefani’s case, she used that creativity to ultimately develop her clothing lines.

Turn your challenges into fuel to achieve success

Just because she’s a celebrity doesn’t mean that Stefani is immune to the same human emotions that we all feel, and she’s had her share of heartbreak. Stefani chooses to funnel those emotions into her creative process, like she did with her latest album This is what the truth feels like. Of course, throughout your life there will still be unpleasant situations, but you can choose your overall perspective. Yes, you may feel stress or negative emotion, but will you let those things halt your plans? Shift your perspective on the bad things that happen in life. Next time you face a challenge try funneling that energy into a drive to succeed.

The bottom line is you don’t have to be a musician to be a rock star. Take a que from Stefani and don’t let anything get in the way of your success.
