If your teen is looking for a long-term babysitting job here are some tips on finding them.
Babysitting is a very common first-time job. It is very rewarding and you can make an earning without having to pay taxes. Which, for some teenagers, they do not realize what a big win this actually is. And, well, it can be really fun for some people who like children. So, how does your teen find babysitting jobs and more importantly keep them? Well, we have some tips.Â
How to find and keep a long-term babysitting job
- Be on time.Â
That is right, with any job you shouldn’t have the family wondering if you are coming. You should be on time. You should be respectful of their time and even come a few minutes early so they can tell you the rundown on what they want or expect, should there be unique instructions.  - Bring things to do.Â
You can’t count on the family to provide things for you guys to do. So always be prepared and bring things from home. Easy fun things to do is puzzles, crafts, and board games. - Take CPR classes.
Taking these classes, you will always be prepared for the worst. Most parents don’t ask if you’ve taken the classes, but it always a good idea for a babysitter. - Act as a parent.
When babysitting, understand that you are watching them as a parent, not a buddy. When you act as a parent you earn parent trust. And you earn the kids respect. - Bring fun activities
Have fun activities going on around town suggest to the parents. This shows you are going above and beyond their expectations. The kids will enjoy it because you are getting them out of the house. And who doesn’t like a road trip? - Don’t stress if the parents are late.Â
We all have been in those shoes and running late for whatever reason so don’t stress it. Most likely they will tip you a little extra for the “trouble”. - Have a backup
Have a backup babysitter for when you can’t make the date. This could be a trusty friend or sibling. Just keep in mind when you suggest someone else they mind consider them over you. - Clean up
Clean up the mess when you are done at the house. It just takes maybe 30 mins of your time. You could get the kids involved with it too. Making sure the house is clean makes it easier for the parents when coming home. You will most likely get a call back if you go the extra mile. - Dress appropriately for the job.
No one wants to leave their kids with an ungroomed person or someone that appears that cannot dress themselves. Dress nicely in clothes you would go to school in or go to church in. - Bring some cash
Always have an extra few dollars on you in case the parents can’t split the money. Breaking the bigger bills such as a hundred when they owe you forty you could meet in the middle and go fifty which gets you extra ten dollars.Â
