Tell us a little about yourself Emma:
I’m a London girl who met Mr Right, hopped the Pond and birthed two tadpoles. For fifteen years I’ve lived in Baltimore, working as a designer and creating my own business creating animal home decor and pet portraits called Studio Emma Kaufmann. I’m passionate about wildlife and also a mompreneur who was recently in the Baltimore Sun http://www.baltimoresun.com/ news/maryland/baltimore- county/towson/ph-tt-elephant- charity-artist-1216-20151216- story.html raising money for elephants with my art.
My animal nursery decor items are very popular with moms who are looking for decor items that are not ‘cutesy’ but that their kids will love. They are looking for something that can work both in baby’s room and in the living room. I sell cushions here: http://www.etsy.com/shop/ studioemmakaufmann and floor cushions, rugs, baby clothes, clocks, shower curtains etc here: http://www.redbubble.com/people/studiokaufmann and http://www.boomboomprints.com/people/studiokaufmann
Mix and match different animal home decor items, from zebra stripes to spotted giraffes, to create your own brilliantly alive zoo decor.
I was tired of trying to buy home decor for my kids’ rooms that was too cute and saccharine for my tastes so I decided to create a line of animal home decor products that were full of pizzazz and not just in pastels either, but in vivid tropical hues.

What kind of approximate start-up costs were involved in getting your business from concept to launch mode?
The costs were low because I work from home and sell all my animal home decor products online. Ultimately I am working on getting the designs licensed so they can be used by companies on their products and sold in different retail outlets.
Who is your home decor products for and how does it benefit them?
I am trying to create animal art that appeals to both moms and kids. My animal home decor products are for stylish moms who want fresh, unique art in their homes. With my funky home decor creations I want to provide moms with options to mix and match bedding, cushions and rugs to perfectly complement each other and bring the jungle into the bedroom.
Please provide one business tip that you feel can really help a mom entrepreneur with her business.
No matter how small your business is – even if you are the only employee and have no plans to grow – run your business with the same discipline as any good business. This means managing cash flow, having a business plan and marketing strategy, and making decisions for the long-term health of the business.

1 thing you do for yourself to unwind from it all?
I really enjoy swimming. I find the water so relaxing. I also love to do water aerobics. It is a great way to feel young as you will always be the youngest in the class as it is mainly full of seniors.
