Sacramento mompreneur opens up a specialty boutique that specializes in fashionable bodysuits for baby boys
Moms from all over the world have discovered a lack of  boutique shops for boys or in other words a boytique. Boutiques  that specialize in cute and fashionable clothing for infants and baby boys are just hard to find. I was one of those moms who went through this same dilemma. After the birth of my daughter in 2005 finding and shopping for adorable clothes was a breeze and I wish I could tell you that I had the same experience when shopping for my son. Our next guest chose to do something about this epic problem. Continue reading to meet her and learn about the adorable products she offers at Noah’s Boytique.
Welcome to Mompreneur Media, Lindsay! Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a mom to an 18 month old little boy named Noah. Noah’s Boytique was started when Noah was about 3 months old as a way for me to relax and kind of wind down from the stresses of being a new mom. I never imagined I would actually be starting a business that would allow me to have 3 full time employees less than a year after starting. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing and have been working in the corporate world since I graduated in 2005 from Cal State Long Beach. I always knew I wanted to have my own company and I have tried some things along the way that didn’t quite pan out but taught me a lot of lessons along the way. I had my real estate license, sold a few houses and then was bored with that. I went back to school to pursue a career in nursing and realized quickly that there was no creative outlet in nursing and I needed something more. I had my ownweb design/consulting business but needed a little more stability so went back into the corporate world. Fast forward through a couple more jobs and now I have found my passion and success with Noah’s Boytique.
What inspired you to start Noah’s Boutique?
Well, I was working a very high pressure job and ending up getting pregnant in 2011. We found out we were having a little girl and were ecstatic and I was making arrangements to be able to telecommute and work from home. 6 months into the pregnancy we found out that our little girl had Trisomy 18. Trisomy 18 is a chromosomal abnormality which is pretty much a non-compatible with life diagnosis. I was devastated and felt like my world was going to end. We ended up having our little girl Ava on March 11, 2011 born to Heaven. When I got pregnant with Noah my perspective on life had changed and being a Mom seemed so much more significant than it had before. I wanted to be able to be home with my son and cherish every little moment with him. I also knew I needed to do some kind of work so I decided to build a website and put on some of the little outfits I had been making for Noah to see if I could market the site and get some exposure and sell some. Well, it ended up getting crazy busy and before I knew it, I had a new baby and a new business.
When designing for Noah’s Boytique, where do you turn to for inspiration?
I look at grown men clothing and see what colors are in season, fabrics, prints and styles and then I translate that into my baby designs. I try to find similar fabrics and keep them “manly” looking but cute for babies at the same time. I also do a lot of themed work for birthdays. I do a ton of research of popular birthday party themes and then design outfits to coordinate with those themes.
Does Noah’s Boytique offer wholesale?
We do offer wholesale and are currently in about 50 different boutiques here in the United States, Canada and Australia. I also wholesale to a lot of photographers who use our items for their newborn shoots, birthday shoots etc. They love the outfits because they can leave on the bodysuit and only snap on and off some accessories to create a whole new outfit. It is quick and super convenient for them so we have a lot of amazing photographers who we work with as well.
Running a business while taking care of your family is hard work. Any tips that have made it a bit easier for you?
Oh man, it is super challenging. Everyday is totally different and since I don’t have a nanny or anything I am watching Noah, feeding him, changing him and then answering emails, printing and packaging orders, managing my staff and trying to multitask like a crazy person. I have found that as long as I am organized and have everything planned out for our production schedule the night before, then I can manage during the chaos of the next day. My husband and I have a solid routine every morning until he leaves for his full time job at noon everyday so that is a huge help.
At the end of a long hard work week what do you enjoy doing to take time for yourself?
We work 7 days a week so we don’t really have that ahhhhh it’s the weekend feeling but we do take time on Saturday’s and Sundays to stay in our pajamas and relax a little bit, play in the backyard with the baby, watch Sesame Street, and read books. We also try to get out on little family excursions a couple times a month to keep our sanity but we are very focused on growing this business so in a few years we will hopefully be able to slow down and have a staff running the daily operations while we can enjoy ourselves a bit more, maybe add another baby into the mix. 🙂

Congrats on Noah’s Boytique! I ran into the same problem when my son was born and this is a fabulous idea! Plus, I am originally from California and grew up in Sacramento…
What a small world this is. I grew up in Modesto, not too far from Sacramento 🙂 Thanks for your comment and support!
