Highland Capital Management has helped retail and institutional investors throughout the world.
Founded by James Dondero and Mark Okada, Highland Capital Management has helped retail and institutional investors throughout the world. While they used to call Los Angeles home, Mr. Dondero and Okada moved themselves and their company to Dallas in 1994. Since its creation, this firm has always made sure that charitable giving remains a top priority. For nearly 25 years, Highland Capital Management has helped make Dallas, Texas a better place.
Mr. Dondero knows that it’s difficult to achieve charitable giving goals without help from others. Considering that, he recently partnered with Linda Owen. Linda Owen served as the former CEO of the Woodall Rodgers Park Foundation which means she knows quite a lot about the value of giving back. Through this partnership, Highland Capital Management continues to help fund all types of nonprofit organizations.
Highland Capital Management serves clients throughout the world. However, when it comes to philanthropy, Mr. Dondero prefers to keep things local. This is why Highland Capital Management has made sizeable charitable contributions to many local organizations. These donations are made through the philanthropic branch of Highland Capital Management, known as Highland Dallas Foundation.Â
Linda Owen and James Dondero recently partnered with The Family Place, an agency that helps offer shelters, education, and counseling for victims of familial violence. In addition, The Family Place offers services for both Spanish and English speaking residents. Thanks to the efforts of Highland Capital Management, The Family Place was able to receive a $1 million challenge grant. Highland Capital Management matched 50% of any funding amount raised for the purpose of The Family Place’s Legacy Campaign, up to $1 million.
The firm has also offered many contributions to the Dallas Zoo. Highland Capital Management offered over $1 million dollars to help the Dallas Zoo construct one of their newest exhibits. This firm’s donations funded the construction both the Hippo Hut and Outpost in the Dallas Zoo’s Wilds of Africa section.
Highland Capital Management has also contributed to local educational facilities. Recently, this firm made a $2 million donation to Southern Methodist University. The donation created this firm’s Endowed Tower Scholars Program Fund. This fund awards students focusing their education on ethical public service, especially in the area of international politics. Students selected to become Tower Scholars are able to receive the chance to study abroad. In addition, these students have opportunities to speak with global leaders, learn more about policymaking, and receive amazing internship opportunities.Â
Another program started by Highland Capital Management is Capital for Kids. This program enables networking between investors who volunteer to assist at-risk children. Through their efforts, Capital for Kids has been able to provide educational programs and other services for low-income households throughout the city of Dallas.
