Fashion isn’t on the top of everyone’s list and neither is developing a personal style, but when it comes to the office it should definitely be something that you think about. What you wear at work can often show what kind of person you are, if you dress smartly then people will take you seriously but if you dress in an untidy fashion it may give off the wrong message.
The men, women, older people, young people and pregnant women in your office will all no doubt try to dress in an appropriate and respectful way, but it may not be fashionable and just because this is the way that they dress it doesn’t mean that you have to follow suit. Office Clothing
There are tons of options when it comes to clothing for work but it ultimately depends on what you feel comfortable wearing.
Dress – Dresses are perfectly suitable to work you can opt to wear tights and boots with this outfit and it will still look good. However, this all depends on the type of dress that you choose to wear. For work, it’s best to go with something that avoids showing too much skin.
Skirt – Similar to the dress you may want to avoid short skirts but if you’re wearing tights it may not be an issue. A nice skirt paired with a shirt will work really well whilst remaining professional and appropriate for work.
Shirt – As already mentioned, a shirt would work well with a skirt but also pairs nicely with a suit or just a pair of trousers. It suggests that your professional and with this, you can opt for different colours to avoid wearing the same thing every day.
Blazer – A blazer will go with any outfit that you choose to wear for work, simply because it looks smart. You can go for understated or colourful and bright if the rest of your outfit doesn’t have any colour to it.
Suit – A suit is probably the most professional office wear that you could choose, but it doesn’t mean that it’s for you. Many are fitted which means that it can often be difficult to find one that you feel comfortable in. But with a suit, you can go for trousers or skirts and it will still look appropriate. Appropriate Shoes
The shoes you decide to wear will ultimately be decided by the type of outfit you wear but it is still none the less an important decision to make. But remember it’s just as important to wear comfortable shoes as it is stylish.
Heels – Many women opt for heels because let’s face it, they look great. But they can often be uncomfortable so it’s best to look out for a pair that will offer you both comfort and style. Not to mention the fact that they pretty much go with any outfit.
Flats – A great alternative to heels, flats can look just as stylish if not more so. Again they will work well with any outfit but you may find it easier to find the right pair of flats as opposed to the right pair of heels.
Accessories for Work
Jewellery can really set off an outfit but it can often be difficult to know what’s appropriate and what will be seen as too flashy and in your face.
Earrings – Earrings are the perfect work accessory as you can wear almost any style and it won’t take too much attention away from the rest of your outfit. Unless you go for hoops that is, they are somewhat harder to miss.
Bracelets – This is another great accessory for work as there are so many options. You could go with a single small bracelet if you want something understated or you could go in the complete opposite direction and wear a set of bracelets that are stackable.
Watches – Watch’s where made for work, not literally but they look professional. If you’re wearing short sleeves you could go for a watch with a large face to draw some attention, alternatively, you could go for one that has a smaller face. This is better if you’re wearing long sleeves as it won’t need to be seen as much.
