Everyone wants more customers, but a lot of businesses do not know the most effective ways to find them. This is a problem because growing your business takes time, money, and resources. These things are precious and wasting them on ventures that are not going to work is a great way to see your business shrink rather than grow.

The other problem with expanding your customer base is that you will need to be able to deal with the greater number of inquiries about business. There is such a thing as too much success. You can see this when a company publishes an offer that a lot of people are interested in their website crashes. Improving the capacity of your website and its ability to deal with greater amounts of traffic is a matter of getting better servers, but the fundamental problem is that if you are not prepared for the new customers you’ll have, you will not be able to capitalize.

In the world of e-commerce, there is a concept known as Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO).  CRO refers to the process of improving your website’s layout and infrastructure so that it manages to make people who are just browsing into people who will actually buy something. This is really important if you are going to make the most of your opportunities. However, the first thing that you need to do is make sure you have the chance to convert some customers. Here are a few ideas on how you can attract more customers to your business the smart way:

Conventions

Rather than just waiting for people to come to you, you need to go to where they are. Lots of different conventions are becoming more popular. Perhaps the most famous is the immensely successful San Diego Comic Con which attracted over 135,000 visitors last year. Since the convention is so established, they are able to get major celebrities to attend, and massive entertainment companies like Marvel and D.C Comics to release information specifically at events at the convention.

If you are able to get endorsements, you should because they obviously work. However, if you are not familiar with the best and brightest in Hollywood, you can do other things. For instance, if you go to a trade show you will find lots of people, and if you give them trade show products with your logo, name, and contact information on, you can use them to advertise your business as they walk around. Besides, you can make lots of contacts and maybe start working with other small businesses around the country to reach more customers.

A recent poll conducted on behalf of Fortune found that about two-thirds of 18 to 34-year-olds are more likely to want to become involved with a company that gives back to society. The figures are not quite as impressive for older people, but that is hardly a surprise. In any case, this means that if you sponsor a local kids’ sports team or run a marathon, you can get your name out there while also demonstrating your value. It really is a win-win.
