Whatever line of business you are in as a mompreneur, growing your audience is the key to success. Your blog, eCommerce store or service business will only survive and thrive if you can attract more people. And although ‘content is king,’ the simple truth is that it isn’t enough – you also need to promote that content and promote it in the right way, to the right people if you want to enjoy growth – and more profits. So, the big question is – how do you go about engaging a wider audience? Let’s take a closer look.

SEO

The first – and most obvious – thing you can do is to sort out your SEO. Search engine optimization is the process of making your website or blog attractive to the likes of Google and Bing. There is a technical side to this – of which there are plenty of SEO guides out there – and then there is a more creative side. This involves creating compelling and engaging content that is loved by Google – and your customers.

Build links

The more links that point to your website, the better – in the vast majority of cases, at least. Link building is an important aspect of signaling to Google and Bing that you are an authority on your subject, and the more places your content is linked to, the better your rankings. There are a few things you need to consider when going through a link building strategy, but ultimately, it’s about creating high-quality content that people want to share. And if you can get authority bloggers on well-respected sites linking to your posts, podcasts or videos, it can be SEO gold.

Build relationships

You should also try and start building relationships with authority figures in your industry. Follow them on social media, and start engaging with them – leaving comments on their blog posts and linking to them from your website, for example. Once you establish a good relationship with them, you might ask them if you could create a guest post for them, exposing you to their audience and resulting in some great link juice to satisfy Google, too.

Target non-English speakers

If everything on your website is in English, you could be missing out on a huge amount of business. Sure, Google offers its own translating service, but it only translates on a word-to-word basis – it has no ability to pick up the nuances of what you are trying to say. You might be better off using proper translation services to ensure your non-English speaking customers understands exactly what you are trying to say. If you are serving a community with a large population of Spanish speakers, for example, then you are missing out if you aren’t presenting your work in a language those customers might understand.

Position yourself as an expert

Think about your knowledge of your industry, and how to present in the form of, say, a training session or presentation. If you can develop your confidence in speaking to large groups of people, it can really have an impact on your audience numbers. Look around for industry events-  or even local business networking evenings – and offer your services. If you can provide something of worth that your customers value, it won’t be long before you are engaging a wider audience.
