When you’re starting your business, you have a million thoughts and ideas flying through your mind… from what kind of logo you want, to the colors of your website, and how you’re going to find clients that pay you.

The Number 1 (And Super Critical) Tip When Starting Your Business
The Number 1 (And Super Critical) Tip When Starting Your Business

There are a lot of aspects you need to work out.

Too often I hear entrepreneurs say that they need to focus on getting their business registered, pitching to clients, and finding offices… as their number one priority. But here’s the thing… when you’re starting out… the first thing you need to get clear on -is what your big dream is… and why you’re doing it!

By being clear on your big dream – and the purpose behind all of this… it makes logos, websites, colors, products and everything else… fall into place seamlessly.

I didn’t start out that way.

When I started out, I had way too many ideas, and far too little clarity.

I knew I needed to make this business thing work, after all, I couldn’t let my little guy go without food just because of my choices for freedom.

I had many skills and talents in my back pocket… and was eager to use them ALL, anything, to make sure that I could pay my bills.

I put everything under one website… I was showcasing my photography, design, video, facilitation, and sprinkling in a little bit of inspiration and a whole lot of life lessons in between.

But the reality is that I had two big dreams.

Each dream was targeting a very different client. On the one hand, I was speaking to corporates about how they could engage their teams and get their corporate strategy in shape… but then in that same week… I was inspiring people to live a better life by decluttering their space.

It was a hot mess!

Not only was my website and brand a mess… but so was I!

I was stuck in a place of confusion. Not only did I struggle to figure out what to call myself [people like and understand titles], but I was also struggling to explain my business, and the result was that I also struggled to make daily business decisions. Basic decisions like what to write about on the blog, whether or not I should include pink on my blog, which products to position, and which strategies I should look at to target my ideal client, were
hard and filled with debate.

I knew something needed to change.

I had received a lot of advice about having only one blog to update [because quite honestly – it’s a big enough task to run one blog – let alone having multiple blogs] … and I had heard other views around focusing on your niche, and only your niche.

I struggled with both options, as my businesses we a little bit of both, and whilst I wouldn’t necessarily recommend running two businesses from the outset [it’s actually kinda crazy], what It did make me realize, is…

Being clear on what you do, is critical.

As a mompreneur, your time is very limited. Between home commitments, nagging babies, and businesses that need to be set up, you don’t have time for uncertainty.

When it comes to your business, the biggest favor you can do for it, is to have clarity.

Whether you’re coaching someone, selling a product, and creating beautiful art… if you don’t have a clear purpose and focus, the options will be overwhelming.
