Utah Mompreneur designs underwear that allows little girls who love to twirl to wear dresses and ditch the shorts
It’s another Inspirational Monday when I have the honor of  interviewing and introducing you to another fabulous mom entrepreneur. Today’s Mompreneur comes for Park City, Utah. Welcome to Mompreneur Media Sandy! Please tell us about yourself.
I was born in South Africa and moved to the United States when I was 15. I currently live with my husband, son, daughter and puppy in Park City, Utah.
Where did the inspiration for Broxies come from?
When my daughter was potty training, she was constantly showing off her “big girl” underwear to anyone and everyone. I didn’t want to stop her from wearing the dresses and skirts she loved, but the constant battle to put on that extra layer of clothing was exhausting. I decided there had to be a better way. From there the concept of Broxies- an all-in-one garment that combines the comfort of underwear with the coverage of shorts, was born.
What kind of approximate start up costs were involved in getting your Broxies underwear from concept to launch mode
My initial prototype was sewn by a friend for free. It’s difficult to quantify the start-up costs because for us it began with hiring a lawyer to file a patent and trademarks. Then we had to pay for production trial runs to get Broxies exactly the way we wanted them, then it was on to the manufacturing costs, packaging prices, shipping costs, developing a Website and social media accounts as well as hiring PR to help spread the word about our product. Where it makes sense, we do as much as we can ourselves but there’s definitely been an investment of our time and money into making this idea a viable reality.
Please provide one business tip that will help a mom looking to launch her own product?
Trust your gut. In the beginning I had a big learning curve in terms of how to create, produce and ship this garment and whom I should work with. Surround yourself with people who have the same values and goals as you and believe in you and your idea.
One thing you do for yourself to unwind from it all?
We recently added a puppy to the family mix and on weekends we love to go for family hikes with her and just enjoy Park City’s changing seasons. We recently moved here from South Florida and it’s nice to have seasons again!
