Inexpensive Yet Effective Marketing for Your Mompreneur Business Series: Blog Advertising

Marketing for your small business does not need to be expensive neither does it need to be dull. I am always trying to come up with low-cost yet effective ways to advertise  my online mompreneur business that actually can be fun at times too!

Blog Advertising for Mompreneurs

Do you have a small mom owned business?

Have you ever thought about advertising online but figured it was too pricey for your budget?

If I told you that it is possible to advertise online, to a very targeted audience, for little money, while networking and helping a blogger earn would you be interested?

What if I made it super easy?

Advertising on Blogs and Websites

Many mompreneurs pass up opportunities to advertise on blogs. Social media and Google Ads take up most of the advertising budgets online at this moment but there are thousands of blogs out there that would love to sell you some space on their sites for a small fee.

Buying space to advertise on a blog is super simple, usually has lower costs than the alternatives online, saves you time (over having to update all those social media profiles you have), can be super targeted AND you have a great opportunity to network with the blog owner. It is a win for everyone!

With a little research and a couple bucks you can bring targeted buyers back to your site ready to opt-in to your newsletter or buy your product.

How to Buy Advertising on a Blog

I bet as a mompreneur you already follow some great ladies online that have massive traffic to their blogs, great readers that would buy your product and offer space for you to advertise on. If you do not then don’t despair.

Here is how you do it:

1. Find the Blogs

Look for blogs that have your target market as its readership. You can do this by researching the blog on social media, read its about page, look up your product keywords in Google or simply ask the blog owner. And a combination of any of these.

Let’s say you sell special lightweight personalized jackets for runners. Chances are you already follow or know of some runner ladies that have sites. Or you can look up “running blogs” in Google. The sites for runners will have readers interested in your jackets.

2. Inquire About the Advertising

Once you find the blogs check to see if they offer advertising space. There just may be a tab at the top that states advertising or you may actually see those 125 x 125 pixel boxes in their sidebar. Or you may need to contact the owner to find out. Who knows, she may not advertise on her blog but maybe in her newsletter.

Tip: Inquire about deals like buy 5 months get a 6th free. Or if there is a discount for advertising in her newsletter also?

3. Find Out the Details

Once you find a blog you will need to know some simple facts.

  • How much traffic and page views does the blog get monthly?
  • What is the reader profile? You may want to know more detail than what you already researched.
  • Where are ads placed on the site? And what size image is used? Generally the more expensive the ad means it is in a more visible location.
  • How long does the ad run? Will the ad automatically renewed?
  • How do you pay? Look for a 3rd party platform that collects the money. Generally a professional blogger will have a reputable company handling the payment transaction.

4. Get Your Banner Image Ready

You can hire someone at Elance, look up banner designers, ask around for a designer from your network or simply ask Nicole here to design a banner for you.

Remember to have it stand out but not obnoxiously annoying and flashy.

5. Place Your Ad

When you are ready to place the ad contact the blog owner to verify the process of getting the banner up. And know all the terms of the agreement.

Also, before you actually place the banner be sure to have your Google Analytics set up to see the results of your ad. Set up goals to be sure your ad is working and it is worth it to possibly advertise there again.

Advertising on blogs is super easy and I believe it is great for fostering relationships with bloggers.

I have been advertising here at Mompreneur media for over a year at her Mompreneur Marketplace. I have solid traffic to my blog, and Nicole and I have become buddies. Like I said, it is a win for everyone!

Do you advertise on sites, if so what has been your experience?
